- The causes of acne
Acne begins in your pores where your hair follicles are. (Hair follicles are considered as pores, even though not every pore grows a hair). Each and every follicle contains a sebaceous gland. This is where an oil-secreting sac is attached to the follicle. These glands produce sebum, an oil that keeps your skin from drying out. When a combination of overactivity glands and dead skin gets stuck in a follicle it creates a plug in the pores called a comedo.
A white head is a closed comedo, the plug lies beneath the surface of you skin.
A blackhead is an open comedo, where the follicle's dark plug is visible on your skin. When the follicles is clogged and it is filled with bacteria, this may rupture and cause severe acne.
